The point is that everyone is looking for that special piece of art that speaks to them and makes them feel emotionally connected.
Sourcing can be tricky and contact us if you would like us to guide you through that journey. These 10 brilliant Surrey artists will provide a fantastic resource, for your search for that perfect piece of art.
Being a Surrey based interior designer, I wanted to feature local talent.
This week we are featuring another five artists whose talents and craft are so inspiring. I personally want to use them all in my home!
Julie Hoyle traditional and contemporary print making
Julie Hoyle exhibits regularly, working with traditional and contemporary print practices using an experimental approach. Her work includes a variety of printmaking on paper and wood as well as 3D constructions and light and shadow installation.
After studying fine art at the University for the Creative Arts in Farnham, she learnt multiple methods of printmaking at The London College of Printing (now The London College of Communication). Julie then studied for her MA in Fine Art Printmaking at Camberwell College of the Arts. After two more years of research, Julie founded Ochre Print Studio in Guildford, obtaining two grants from The Arts Council England to develop the studio. During her directorship from 2006 – 2016 she tutored, mentored and editioned work for artists of all abilities.
Julie was selected as one of the artists for the National Trust’s trials in 2018, a repurpose for one of their historic houses, Leith Hill Place in Surrey. With Arts Council support again for the residency, culminating in an exhibition at the house, she researched its past famous residents particularly the English composer, Ralph Vaughan Williams and his grandmother, Caroline Wedgwood.
Julie was asked to return to the house in 2019 to further investigate and celebrate the life of Caroline Wedgwood. She has also recently worked at RHS Wisley Garden leading an art project for botanical art with disability artists across Surrey.

Amy Lou Art illustrator/painter
Amy studied Textile Design at Derby University and couldn’t get a job in that area that paid well enough to fund her living expenses, partying and fashion obsession in London!
Family life took over and finally, a friend gave her the shove she needed and she started drawing again. Amy started drawing lingerie initially, which is what she had originally studied. “Those that know me, know only too well how obsessed I am with fashion and I truly believe that you should dress from the inside out, starting of course with some beautiful lingerie. Now, here I am four years later, and I wished I had picked up that pen sooner!”
Amy has since expanded her portfolio quite considerably with drawings of families, houses, hotels, shoes, handbags, children’s toys, wedding dresses, Christmas cards, invites , animals , canvas work etc.
Amy has developed into more of an illustrator, with much tighter, more detailed work. Above all though, with the years comes increased confidence in herself and her style. “I am less concerned about what people think, so can now completely immerse myself in my studio. My style is just that, MY style – I’m not in the slightest offended if it’s not your thing (I know what I like and don’t like and I’m sure you do too) but I get so much satisfaction out of hearing from those who do enjoy my work. I’m trying new things all the time” .

Lisa Sharpe Art abstract artist
Lisa Sharpe is an intuitive abstract artist who has been involved in the world of Art and Design for over 25 years; her artistic practice is about expressing energy and emotions through paintings and 3D artworks.
“ Art has always been my passion: I believe that it should be about pleasure and the senses: it should touch your soul and stir something inside you, always giving you something back…. Through the medium of paint, colour has the ability to create its own visual language: a language which like music, bypasses the mind and connects directly to the soul – it is this language of emotions and connection which I am trying to speak…”
Her artistic journey started at the age of 21 when she set up her own business designing handmade silk shoes. Having designed the bridesmaids’ shoes for the Duke and Duchess of York’s Royal Wedding, she was selected as shoe designer for the BBC “Bride of the Year” TV series. She had won a major Conde Nast Fashion Award by the time she was 25.
Lisa later went on to follow her passion for art by working for several art galleries. In 2006, set up Lisa Sharpe Contemporary Art in order to help private collectors build personalised art collections.
In 2016, Lisa started collaborating with Swiss gemologist and jewellery designer Doris Hangartner. Together creating Gem Art Fusion: a unique concept of matching a painting with its resonating gemstone. In 2016/17 they created a stunning exhibition for the exclusive Grace Belgravia, London.

Boo Design
Jack Newman created Boo Design 15 years ago, after studying art and design at university.
Boo Design provides graphic design solutions. The majority of Jack’s work is corporate branding, leaflets, adverts, business stationery and exhibition graphics and wedding stationery.
Jack’s beautiful prints are all based on a sketch she did in her foundation course in art and design. She decided a few years ago to produce a range of personalised prints based on her original sketch. All of the artwork starts off as pencil sketch which is then recreated as a watercolour drawing. The first drawing was “Antler Girl”. Now the whole range includes illustrations of children either wearing hats or suits that make them look like endearing animals.
Boo Design’s bright and fun personalised art prints make a wonderful gift. They are personalised as shown to include the child’s name, date of birth and place of birth. They are ideal as a gift for the birth of a new baby, a special birthday, a naming ceremony, a christening or if you just want to treat someone to a unique children’s gift.
Boo Design can work with almost any length of name. They are happy to design these prints in a different language or with accents over names etc.
