Creating Your Luxury Kitchen

Creating The Ultimate Luxury Kitchen! The Kitchen Is The Heart of The Home!

It is no secret that the kitchen is the heart of the home. Most of our Surrey Interior design projects are built or renovated to create the ultimate kitchen hub. This is the space where it all happens: Family meals, kids birthday parties (if you feel brave enough) and friends coming together.

This room has come a long way. Ten years ago, we thought we were fancy for having the dining table in the same room! Now we want sofas, TV’s, breakfast nooks, bar areas and very fancy gadgets.

Before we get into the fancy details, Sadie Pizzey interiors is a Surrey Interior design firm, but we service all of the UK & overseas. We share a monthly Newsletter, where we share top design tips, behind the scenes access and our favourite suppliers for sourcing! So, signup below!

Now I will give you a word of warning! This large open plan space is a fantastic addition for family life, as long as you have other rooms to escape to. Now, obviously I love my family & being together in our big space is fantastic, but sometimes I want to escape (don’t judge me). Having a sperate snug or ideally a family room & lounge means we can all have some quiet time away from the big space.

I would also think very hard about including a TV in this space. If you love the idea of tranquil cooking in a large, luxurious interior space, this could be decimated with irritating teen dramas or Xbox computer bots! Move the noise away and encourage this space for social time!

Planning Your House Renovation -Interior Design Surrey London & Uk

Creating Your Luxury Kitchen - Surrey Interior Designer!

For most of our Interior design projects in Surrey & London, this space is usually a new creation. Either part of an extension or a complete new construction.

We always like to part of the project before any architectural plans are submitted. This is our perfect opportunity to create detailed space planning.

At Sadie Pizzey Interiors, our projects are client led and step one of our design process is our Drill Down Chat. Here we delve into what is important to our clients, how they want to live, their heritage, exciting travels, house dreams, surrounding inspiration and then weave all this into our designs.

This then leads to step two, which is our detailed layouts and conceptual design, one of the most important design steps. We create a perfect layout for how you want to live. We make it beautiful but also practical. Ensuring this new design will make your day to day life enjoyable and highly efficient. Sometimes this stage has an impact on the architects plans, we often move walls, doors, windows to ensure everything is included in your perfect space.

Space planning at this stage is imperative!

Once the layouts & concepts are finalised, then step three of our process is The Design Direction meeting. We review everything, analyse every tiny detail and make sure nothing is forgotten.

The planning journey can then continue and once all permission, permits and regulations have been agreed, then it’s the design details.

What Does Luxury Interior Design Mean? Surrey Renovation

I think luxury is banded about a lot and actually it can mean different things to different people. It can represent a truly luxurious material palette or the quality of materials or even the quality of workmanship.

For me when I hear luxury kitchen, I do think of finishes & textures (more to come on this), but I also think of definition, clever storage & multifunctionality.

Surrey Renovation

For me luxury equals a well-designed room, with zones for how you want to use the space. This might seem obvious, as the common zones are cooking, dining & lounging. But this is your space and can cater to any of your requirements. It maybe this will serve as a partial office, in which case how is it zoned? And does it need a design to hide it away? It might be that you love a space for table tennis, cocktail drinking or dart playing, then how will it translate with the whole space? So it sits well against the other zones?

Defining each zone can be achieved in the use of material palette & colour tones, but there are also other ways to achieve partial separation. Decorative screens, sliding doors, glass panels & joinery, are all design elements SP Interiors have used to define zones & add flexibility to how this big, open space can be used.

Practical Interior Design – Interior Design Surrey London & UK

Creating Your Luxury Kitchen - Surrey Interior Designer!

The practicalities of this space are essential to get right! This part of the house has to work incredibly hard! Firstly establishing the usage of the kitchen & how you like to cook, store, clean & prepare food will impact the layout & how everything is designed. For example if you love cooking & socialising at the same time, then a Bora hob with cooking options of induction, gas & a teriyaki grill, create a fantastic cooking experience, that also looks pretty fancy!

Alternatively if you hate mess and don’t like distraction, then a range cooker or even second hidden kitchen (if you’re really fancy) could be more suitable to your needs.

How To Hide The Mess in Our Homes! Surrey Interior Designer

Storage is a big must in your big room. Multi-functional spaces used by lots of people can get really messy! How are you going to encourage everyone to tidy and put things away? Gadgets and charging have become a big problem in homes. Suddenly every family member has a phone, iPad or laptop charging in this space. Charging drawers and cupboards are an essential in a luxury kitchen. Not only does it hide all the gadgets and wires neatly away, but it encourages us all to keep these distractions out of our bedrooms!

There is so many clever design elements we have used to hide, organise and beautify the mess in out clients homes and if this appeals to you, then get in touch.

How To Reduce The Noise In Our Homes?

My last note on the practical points of this open space is noise! Kitchens are commonly full of hard surfaces, floors, worktops, metallic appliances & all this creates the perfect surfaces to bounce sound around. The additions we make for commercial spaces can also apply to a residential space. We love using unique, innovative material palettes anywhere and so we work hard to select materials that absorb sound and reduce the echo.

Interior Design Finishes!

Now of course the finishes are a vital layer to creating a luxurious kitchen. In the open plan space there are many different areas where your material selection is not just visually impactful but also is an important tactile element. Here are the top surfaces and materials to consider when designing the luxury kitchen:

  1. The floor; this is a practical, open space so flooring needs be hardy, but not too fussy so that it distracts from the other design elements. Tile, wood (depending on sun impact) or micro cement are the top options.
  2. The cabinetry; real wood, hand painted or sprayed cabinets are the common choices. The colour and finish is one of the most impactful choices in this space.
  3. The worktop; until recently quartz & granite were the common choices. However, the natural choice of quartzite, although expensive is exquisitely beautiful and elevates any space. We are using this in two current projects and the depth of colour & tone this stone provides, just can’t be replicated in the man-made comparison.
  4. Hardware; cheap handles can kill a design concept. Metal choices should correspond to each other. For example if you choose antique brass hardware, then tie-in lighting, switches & even taps with this finish. Large spaces need cohesion, a maximum of two different metal finishes should only be seen in one space.
  5. Splash backs; this is a great opportunity to make a design statement. If you have muted finishes, textures and tones so far, then splashing an incredible stone, tile or even metal can be visually incredible without having too much impact on your budget.
  6. Lighting; we touched on it above. This is a place to correspond your metal finish. It is also a good place to help establish the feel of the design. For example a modern space, will have crisper, sharper lines in the decorative lighting. Whilst more traditional spaces will use lights that are more classically shaped, with calmer finishes and often more glass.

How these materials interact with each other, determines the impactful and ultimately luxurious feel of this room. It is a skill to select and combine multi finishes. A knowledge of how materials react in situations is also vital. SP Interiors are skilled at pushing certain materials forward in a design and then muting other surfaces. It is also a skill that enables a kitchen to look more high-end.

This space is probably the most important room in your home to get right. We usually use it as the core piece of our design, so that the rest of the home feels connected. We call it the red thread, creating an overall design that connects to each other and truly represents you and your loved ones.
