Sensational Surrey Hills Interior Design Project!

Sensational Surrey Hills is one of the most fun Surrey interior design projects we’ve worked on. The client brief was to create a unique and quirky family home that was very user friendly but also a great party house!

The clients came to us with some initial plans from their architect, but the flow wasn’t working. The kitchen was cutting off circulation. The utility was open to the entertaining space and the garden door openings didn’t make sense.

Interior Designer Surrey, London, UK – The Process!

My client loves to cook and during our drill down chat we spent a lot of time analysing how he likes to move around a kitchen and where he prefers items to be. There was also a breakfast station and cocktail bar on the wish list along with Crittall doors and parquet flooring. The floor plan and concept stages brought together the whole design. With the kitchen being moved to a more accessible part of the space and a row of doors leading to a hidden pantry, utility, breakfast station and cocktail bar. We also lined up three sets of Crittall doors so that each zone (cooking, dining & dancing) led to the garden.

Surrey Interior Design – The Layout & Conceptual Design!

We work on layouts and concepts in conjunction as they always influence each other. Three kids means lots of noise, so the clients were clear they would love to find ways of reducing this. This is how we landed on our first quirky material choice of cork. We sourced some incredible cladding which allowed us to create a magical wall of hidden doors. Which not only look sensational but also cork has great noise reducing qualities. Both the breakfast station and cocktail bar are hidden behind sliding pocket doors, allowing them to be in use at different parts of the day.

We also designed a large island using a warm quartz with a bronze vein that then transitions into a liquid metal breakfast bar to get the party going! This party spirit is also continued in the lit, gold leaf cocktail cupboard, which glows up beautifully at night. Our client loves plants and nature, so we reflected this with rich green cabinetry and decorative shelving to display pot plants. The cork we chose also has a beautiful green undertone. To contrast with this we chose to add rustic brick slips along the kitchen wall.

A common mistake we see in homes is that too much is squeezed into a space, allowing circulation space or dancing space is vital to the success of an open plan room. We positioned the dance floor in the centre of the space and the dining zone off to one side.

Surrey Interior Design – Living Room Design!

The living room is open to the kitchen, but has concealed floor to ceiling pocket doors so the room can be separated when needed. We continued the same colour palette in this room, but added richer fabrics and interesting textures to bring a calmer, cosier feel to the space.

The kids living space is at the front of the house with a vibrant colour palette, pattered window treatments and vintage furniture.

Interior Practical Spaces!

The working rooms of the house are all hidden behind the cork, utility door. Here we incorporated a utility room, boot room, office space with hidden bed and shower room.

The kids bedrooms are large spaces with their own unique personalities. The family bathroom continues the more playroom theme with bold bottle green metro tiles and daffodil accessories.. A statement bath is positioned under the window with a glass globe pendant above.

Interior Designer Surrey, Calming Retreat!

The principle bedroom is a contrasting calming retreat to all this. With a rich colour palette and moroccan lighting it embraces the night time mood. We chose to hide the wardrobes behind a stud wall so that all clutter and distractions were removed from the room. The ensuite has a sensual, spa like quality. With a large walk-in shower and double sinks it is the perfect space to escape family life.

How To Achieve A Successful Interior Design Project

The success of this project was down to the space planning and innovative material palette. We advised our client to invest in the strong design statements and then used clever, design trickery to reign in the spend in other areas.

We are passionate about building relationships with our clients, we want to know them, find out their passions, how they live and then weave all this into a truly unique design that completely reflects them.
