Hampton Court Interior Design Project.

Interior Design In Surrey.

Hampton Court Interior Design

Our recently completed Hampton court project was one of our most fun design briefs. A family of actors, they wanted their home to reflect their bold interests and zest for life. They had originally extended their home ten years ago, but the interior finishes were safe choices with lots of grey, that didn’t at all represent their personalities. The house is in an amazing location, right on the river in Surrey and their lacklustre interiors was not the right backdrop to make the most of their incredible views.

Before we get into the fancy details, Sadie Pizzey Interiors is a Surrey Interior design firm, but we service all of the UK & overseas. We share a monthly Newsletter, where we share top design tips, behind the scenes access and our favourite suppliers for sourcing! So, signup below!

Our Interior Design Process for Creating Luxury Homes.

Step one of Sadie Pizzey Interiors processes is always our Drill Down Chat and this is where we really understand our clients wish list, their practical requirements and how they want to feel in their finished home. Our client had collated some inspirational images, and we explored their preferred aesthetics and how we could really weave them into their home.

Making The Most of The Home with The Interiors.

Impactful Surrey Interiors.

During stages two & three of our process, we really think of the home from every angle. We delve into the layouts, the viewpoints of each space and then build concept boards to piece together the whole look and feel.

In this stage we decided to make a few impactful changes. This Surrey, principal bedroom overlooked the river but had a short, stumpy window which reduced the river view. We designed a new, full length picture window. As soon as you entered the homes landing you were greeted with the impact of this incredible view. By keeping the existing window lintel, this change is a lot more cost efficient. Other than angle grinding the bricks to the floor, there were no structural changes required. Just the cost of the new window.

We also made the most of the adjoining flat roof, by gaining planning permission to change this into a fully functional balcony, which is accessible from the principal bedroom.

We knew that the home needed more depth. There was a lot of flat, grey walls, which sucked the energy out of the home. Colour and natural finishes played a major part in lifting the home, along with clever joinery and striking furniture selections.

We held our design direction meeting with our clients to show the changes and impactful conceptual design, which they loved and were very excited to see implemented.

Interior Design Details for Our Hampton Court Project.

Stages four & five is the design details. Full selections, design boards, samples, elevations of wall features, joinery design, lighting & electrical plans and full costs.

SP Interiors usually focus our initial design thoughts on the space used the most by the family. We want our homes to have a red thread that brings cohesion to the home. By focusing on this space, it allows us to build out our design consistently. Texture was the key change needed for the kitchen. The starting point, we designed bespoke walnut panelling with a walnut planter. The richness of walnut gives the space more depth. The planter is a piece of art, but with greenery flowing from it has routed the space back to the outdoors and the river view.

Surrey Joinery Design.

Sadie Pizzey Interiors love custom joinery; it allows us to create bespoke storage for our homes but also streamlines spaces. Furniture pieces are great in the right setting, but lots of freestanding additions can make a home feel cluttered and smaller than it is.

Luxury Home Bar Design.

We designed a new cocktail bar with hidden office storage for the kitchen. There was an existing bar, but it was all open shelves, allowing clutter to gather. By reducing the open section and using antique mirror with lighting to highlight it, this became more impactful.  We could then hide the rest of the storage away, allowing dual usage for this part of the space.  Next, we designed new cupboards for the TV corner and log storage for the fire.

Surrey Hallway Storage.

The hallway also benefitted from a new bespoke shoe cupboard. During our Drill Down Chat, we always explore our clients pain points with their home. For our Hampton Court clients, they were struggling with their entrance hall being a dumping ground. We removed a seating bench (as it was a prime dumping spot) and instead added a very functional floor to ceiling shoe cupboard.

The Ultimate Luxury Surrey Wardrobe Design.

For the principal bedroom we also designed, personalised wardrobes for our clients. We often find clients fixate on the external look of joinery, but the internal working is incredibly important.

During stage one of our design process, we uncover what our clients want to store, how they like to hang, fold, shoe quantities, bags quantities and the list goes on. This results in an internal layout that is completely bespoke to you and your needs. When we completed the survey for this home, we found we had extra depth for the wardrobes. We always want to optimise all the space we have, so we added further shoe boxes and hanging rails for accessories on the inside of each door, so our clients could get even more into their wardrobes!

Interior Design Finishes in our Special Surrey Homes.

Hampton Court Interior Design.

We had already layered in some incredible walnut into our client’s kitchen. Next we wanted to make sure the space felt warm and inviting. We decided to colour drench the space in F&B Setting Plaster and then add a beautiful textural paper to the chimney breast.

No More Boring Surrey homes!

The hallway and landing is a space that struggles for light and was very bland. We chose a somewhat bonkers wallpaper from House of Hackney, that completely elevates the space and makes the home exciting to enter. We teamed it with some incredible paint choices and beautiful hardware.

How To Transform An ugly Door?

One of the issues we faced with the hall & landing were the flat, bland doors. It is often a problem with adjoining spaces that you have lots of doors that can really be a design challenge.

Where To Spend & Save On An Interior Design Project?

Where To Spend & Save On An Interior Design Project?

With any project we have a budget, it is our job, as an interior designer to decipher where we spend and where we use clever design tricks to save. To change eight doors is costly! It isn’t just the cost of the new doors, but also the cost of a joiner hanging all doors. Instead, we designed a clever upcycle. We added stained, distressed wooden strips to each door, along with patinated brass hardware. This gave them a more dimensional feel and turned them into works of art. It just shows how some clever trickery and good contractors can make a huge design change for minimal cost!

Interior Design Steps Six to Nine.

Our design stages from six to nine are all about implementation. For this Surrey home we had to put together a great team of contractors for step six. We used out fantastic joiner, and our clients already had a brilliant decorating team.

Project management of an interior design project is no mean feat. We always begin providing each trade with all their drawing packages and specification schedules to quote and work from. There are then design meetings, on site check-ins and the hours of troubleshooting and problem solving.

Steps seven to nine is scheduling ordering, deliveries, managing deficiencies and install.

We had a lot of fun layering the furniture and furnishing for this house.

For the front snug, we embraced the moody and created a cocooning atmosphere. We contrasted out dark paint choice with a warm, toffee velvet sofa and incredible velvet blind, fabric from House of Hackney. Warm woods, layered rugs and rich leathers, all worked to layer the design.

In the kitchen the tanned leather sofa contrasts incredibly well with the rich table and the bold dining chairs from Anthropologie. The weaved island pendants anchor the colours and textures. Although we couldn’t add any rugs because of the four dogs, we added lots of cushions and incredible linen curtains with an exquisite Zoffany trim to both heighten the design and add a practical buffer to hide the dirt.

It’s All in The Interior Details!

Never leave a space plain or empty if you can and this was so true of the large window sill on the landing. We toyed with wiring in new table lamps, but to avoid the extra cost we used Pooky battery table lamps and then had this incredible dried floral display created to tie-in with the impactful wallpaper.
