How To Transform An Ugly House!
This Guildford 1970’s detached house was in a fantastic location with a beautiful garden but the house was a huge disappointment.
Small, dark awkward rooms, restricted access to the garden and hardly any opportunities to enjoy the beautiful garden views.
A New Layout For Our Surrey Renovation.
We worked with a brilliant architect to completely re-think this Guildford house. Additions were made to the side, back and 1st floor of the property. Virtually every internal wall was removed and a brand new layout was created. Externally the house changed from a traditional 70’s facade to a modern clad and rendered finish, with huge glass windows and doors.
We replaced the dark narrow hallway by moving the entrance to the middle of the house, so that views of the garden can be seen as soon as you enter the property.
Luxury Kitchen Design.
The kitchen is the star of the home. As any original character was absent from the house, SP Interiors added some character by installing a wall of reclaimed timber. This runs the entire length of the kitchen and also incorporates a secret door to a very useful utility room. We decided to keep the units and worktops simple in porcelain, which then allowed us to centre all the focus on our incredible distressed copper splash backs. The entire space works brilliantly for family life and entertaining.
Designing A Fun, Family Space.
A large family room was created off the kitchen. Flexibility in a design scheme is fantastic. The room is open plan to the kitchen, but with an option of closing it off with a large sliding barn door. A dark colour, moody interior colour palette was chosen to contrast with the kitchen. Sadie Pizzey Interiors designed the entertainment system to be housed in the same reclaimed timber as the kitchen and fun bespoke neon signs were created to give the room a playful design.
There is also a beautiful grown-up lounge, study and pantry downstairs. We feature this lounge on our YouTube channel.
Surrey Bedroom Design.
Upstairs there are five bedrooms. As the master bedroom was a new addition it allowed us to create a vaulted ceiling. A bespoke headboard was created to draw on the impressive room height and a rattan swinging chair was hung from the tall space. Vintage pieces were added to create a warm, calm feel to the room.
We had lots of fun creating two very different children’s rooms. A brief which was all about butterflies allowed us to be bright and flamboyant. A whole wall of colourful butterflies was installed. This was teamed with a bespoke floral velvet headboard, which creates a sense of joy and playfulness. All colours were welcomed to this bedroom and the result is fun, beauty and optimism!
Interior Design For Kids Bedrooms.
The second special room was quite a contrast with a soft pastel pink used on the walls, which was a gorgeous backdrop to twinkling gold stars. A vintage wrought iron bed was incorporated into the space, along with lots of vintage furniture, including an antique child’s school desk. The addition of the Alice In Wonderland art work adds to the unique bespoke space, which is perfect for any little girl.
The finished house is unrecogniseable from its original uninspiring start. If you would like to work with a Surrey Interior designer or you have a project anywhere in the UK, then please get in touch.
