Notting Hill Interior Design.

Designing this home in Notting Hill for our incredibly lovely client was such a joy. A duplex apartment, with a three deck roof terrace overlooking Notting Hill is a special find and we knew the interiors needed to reflect this unique home

London Open Plan Living – Interior Designer London.

As with many London duplex’s; the kitchen, living & dining is all open plan.

This was a generous size and the dome ceiling was an incredible feature. As with all our interior design projects we began by creating the internal layouts & conceptual design.

From our Drill Down Chat we established that our client wanted a space that was eclectic, calming & grounded. Our client is very sociable and it was paramount that we designed this space with great circulation, cosy seating & a material palette that encapsulated a sense of belonging.

Zoning a London Duplex Apartment. London Interior Design.

Zoning was a crucial part of the design of this space, the kitchen running along the skylights created crucial storage & worktop space, whilst being flooded with light & views of the clouds! The small island created a social focal point & a key separation to the central living zone.

The centre of the dome ceiling was highlighted by centralising the living zone. The brick, joinery & seating layout emphasized the dome but also ensured there was plenty of guest seating & created a sense of home.

The Dining Zone – Notting Hill Interior Design.

The zone was aligned with one of the two incredible fireplaces we inherited. Positioned by the bifold doors to terrace one, allowing an inside, outside feel for our client to enjoy.

Lighting An Open Plan Space – London Interior Design.

Our clients had not planned to change the lighting & electrics, but when we carried out our survey we established that there was hardly any lighting & the duplex was incredibly dark. Our client was left with no choice but to face the painstaking renovation of rewiring & plastering their home. A lesson in how properties are not always what they seem.

SP interiors loves designing lighting & electrics. We believe in layering different light sources & emphasising architectural features. This unfortunate discovering created an opportunity to elevate the home & add beautiful decorative lighting.

We added pendants over both kitchen & dining zones, wired all table lamps back the main switches & added hidden LED strips to light up the dome ceiling & create a sense of drama to the space.

Joinery & Incorporating Air Conditioning in A London Home.

SP interiors dedicates time & detail to our joinery design. We want to ensure that our joinery is not only beautiful but also works practically for our client’s needs.

Below the TV we needed both practical storage as well as a place to hide wiring, routers etc. In this instance we wanted the joinery to blend into the zone. We had some strong focal features with the brick & dome ceiling, so we created a simple bank of cupboards, with shaker doors, painted in the wall colour to blend in.

Air conditioning in top floor duplexes is absolutely vital. These encompassing units do, however, create an interior design challenge.

We decided to design an incredible piece that hid the unit, incorporated the vents & provided further storage for our clients. SP Interiors chose an incredible, electric blue to contrast with some of the calmer colour palettes and finished it with beautiful patinated brass hardware. We fed the cables through for table lamps so that all cables were hidden

Bespoke furniture – Interior Furniture Design.

During stage two of the SP interiors process, we establish where bespoke additions will be required and where we can used more accessible products to stretch our clients budgets. With this space being so important, we knew that no high street armchair was going to match the requirements of the space.

SP interiors designed in-house these beautiful armchairs with a material palette of aged oak, soft tanned leather & textured linen. We wanted the chairs to be multi-dimensional. They would be seen from all sides & their beauty was integral to the space. We decided to envelope the leather over the backs & arms of the chair & highlight this detail with beautiful brass buckles. Our clients absolutely adore the chairs and they are pieces they will keep forever and integrated into each new home they move to.

Interior Design – Choosing The right Finishes, Furniture & Selections.

Selecting the right pieces for our client’s takes time and huge consideration. We are passionate that our selections are unique and weave together a design that is completely representational of their personalities.

Much of SP interiors selections centred around adding depth & texture to the space. We love aged wood, having it in the kitchen cabinetry and floors instantly brings warmth & character to the space. We also selected a beautiful, aged oak table for the dining zone and mixed this with antique chairs that we restrained and a sculptured oak chair. The combination creating the eclectic feel that was so important to our client.

Our client loves vibrant blue, red & yellow, we didn’t want these additions to be too over powering, so filtered this palette through in the lighting, accessories, soft furnishings & art & allowing a powerful splash of colour in our joinery design. We also brought in tanned leather in our bespoke chairs, bar stools & coffee table, which really grounded the space.

Choosing the right metal for a home is important, a patinated brass was a beautiful contract to the wood & leather.

Our client loves artwork, we reframed pieces they already owned and sourced new eclectic pieces to elevate the home to the next level

London Bedroom Design.

This principal bedroom is a great space, the previous owners had added a bath but we decided that a whole wall of wardrobes was better suited to our clients love of clothes and shoes.

The same calm palette & colour tones were brought down to this floor. Our client was gifted a striking piece of art, which was the starting point for this room. SP Interiors echoed the moments of red in a beautiful, geometric fabric on the Roman Blinds & softened the window reveals with beautiful, voile dress curtains.

The bed was an early find and we knew it was perfect for grounding the space. We then then echoed this design in our joinery finishes.

We worked with an incredible artisan for the bone, China wall lights and matched the tones in the artwork above the bed. The oversized, oak bed side tables incorporated the repeated patinated brass. This finish is also seen in the incredible oak chair with linen upholstery.

Although bedroom two was more compact, we wanted the earthy palette & texture to embrace our client. The textured wallpaper behind the bed created the perfect backdrop for the tanned leather bedhead and linen bed. In smaller rooms where possible we add storage in beds and if space is tight, we ensure the bedside table are floating to create a bigger sense of space.

Wardrobe design – Interior Designer.

SP Interiors are fantastic at designing wardrobes. Joinery is everything in a bedroom! In stage one of our design process, the Drill Down Chat, we cover everything our clients want to store in each space & the bedroom is one of the most important rooms to get right.

We spend time exploring how clients want to store clothes, bags & shoe quantities, how they use their seasonal wardrobe, the maximum their collections could be and the list goes on. SP interiors then cleverly weave all this into a bespoke design that is completely right for each client.

We are particularly proud of the finishes we used in these spaces. For the principal bedroom we used the oak frame with rattan centre and finished each door with oversized, brass hardware.

For bedroom two we used a spray finish with incredible, textured, weaved wallpaper in the centre panels

Where possible SP Interiors always add integrated, automatic LED’s that not only beautifully lights each area but is practical for our client’s busy lives.

Interior Design for The Box Room.

In London property space can be compromised and it is very common for a London Duplex to have a small boxroom. To ensure these spaces aren’t cluttered, dumping grounds, the interior design is vital. Our client was initially unsure how to use his space. The obvious thought was to turn it into a study, but our client rarely works from home & preferred the idea of working from the light, filled top floor.

A guest bed was needed, but with space being such a premium, it seemed a waste to only use this for occasional guests, so we decided to make the room a cosy snug. A small, cosy room for watching films, reading books, occasional emails & which could easily transform into a guest bed. SP Interiors began by choosing the right bed (with important storage) which perfectly fitted the space. Adding shelves & further hidden storage for books & practical bedding etc. Then SP Interiors sourced oversized, back cushions and plenty of textural soft furnishings to layer the space & create an inviting hub for our client to enjoy.

Our client absolutely loves this room & uses this room far more than she thought she would. Highlighting that good interior design increases useability.
