Unique Furniture Finishes with Costello Bespoke.
Todays blog is covering unique furniture finishes with Costello Bespoke. This week I was lucky enough to interview Sam, who runs Costello Bespoke. Costello Bespoke specialises in unbelievable, custom finishes on all types of furniture. Anything from kitchens, to individual furniture pieces, to bars, to quirky wall installations.
How It All Began!
Sam started his career as a talented artist, exhibiting in London galleries and this was where Sam’s creativity all began. From there he enjoyed a brief stint as a picture framer, before becoming an apprentice for a furniture restorer. This was really the start of his love affair with restoration and creating truly unique pieces. Sam recounts how through his time as an apprentice he saw the shift from antique restoration to one of a kind creations.
Following his apprenticeship Sam then decided to set up Costello Bespoke. Fifteen years on, he still loves creating exceptional pieces and working with a range of designers and private clients.
What To Expect From Costello Bespoke.
I was lucky enough to meet Sam in September last year. I went to Costello Bespoke’s show room in Staines-Upon-Thames. Sam has his workshop downstairs, where he is constantly creating new exciting projects. Upstairs he has a whole space dedicated to samples. The range of finishes Sam offers is unbelievable. I could have quite happily spent hours there.
Sam loves to design pieces and works collaboratively with interior designers and private clients to create the perfect piece. Costello Bespoke can also create custom finishes for existing pieces. If you have a special piece of furniture but you want to adapt it, then Sam can work with you to transform your piece into something very unique.
Costello Bespoke’s Finishes
The finishes Costello Bespoke specialises in are truly stunning. Being a lover of all metals, particular patinaed brass and copper, the liquid metal finish is a huge favourite of mine.
Costello Bespoke have also become masters of creating the Cracked Gesso finish, which brings so much interest to a piece. Sam also favours Gilding, a traditional finish, but by using it on different substrates it can take on a more contemporary appearance.
As well as the innovative finishes, Sam also offers high end spray finishes and is an absolute genius with how he plays around with different types of timber to create such texture and beauty.
Costello Bespoke’s Services and Creations.
What I really love about Costello Bespoke is the variety of creations they are able to produce. As well as the vast ways you can work with Sam to create such unique additions for your home or business.
As Costello Bespoke are so clever with their use of timber, it is no surprise that they are asked to produce a substantial amount of doors, whether it’s for cabinetry, kitchens or large statement doors. One thing is for sure, no one else will have that creation in their home.
From Sam’s days as an artist, he still enjoys producing custom pieces for clients. The art installation below is created from resin droplets and the large panels hung together in a space are so impactful and beautiful.
Costello bespoke also create the resin droplets in some incredible colours, which I think would look amazing as a back splash in a kitchen or bathroom.
Costello Bespoke excel themselves in beautiful pieces of furniture. The photograph below is a cabinet and gilded mirror, which was created by Costello Bespoke. Including the gorgeous guilded birds on top of the mirror. I am such a huge fan of bespoke additions to a home. It brings an opportunity to create something that fits the space perfectly, both in terms of size and aesthetics. It also allows you to bring something unique and very special into your home. Something that you won’t find anywhere and that is completely bespoke to you.
Costello Bespoke also create kitchens, usually incorporating a traditional shaker design. There is then also the option of combining an exquisitely made kitchen with some of Sam’s unique finishes. Costello Bespoke was recently featured in House and Garden, showcasing an incredible kitchen island they had created for an interior designer, using heavily distressed and Antiqued Solid Sapele.
Below is a demonstration of how incredible the polish brass looks as a finish. This was a recent bar that Costello Bespoke created for a business. The glow of the brass is so breath taking and so impactful in a space.
