Cosy Kingston was a dream project for Sadie Pizzey Interiors — a Victorian property with wonderful bones but a dreadful layout. Our client wanted a home that felt warm, personal, and practical, with every detail working hard for family life while embracing the property’s character.
Rethinking the Kitchen Layout
The original open-plan kitchen felt cut off and cluttered, with poor circulation and a breakfast bar that disrupted the flow. The redesign centred on one pivotal move: removing the breakfast bar and introducing a slim, elegant kitchen island. This island extended into a bespoke dining table, creating a natural hub in the centre of the room. With prep, cooking, and dining gathered together, we freed up space at the far end of the room for a relaxed living zone, anchored by a vibrant, patterned rug.
Biophilic Design with Personality
Our client’s love of nature guided much of the design. Green tones, natural textures, and plants were woven through the scheme to create a sense of calm connection to the outdoors. To maximise the budget, we reconfigured the existing cabinetry, sourcing new sprayed doors in a favourite Little Greene colour, detailed with a brass trim that ran like a golden thread throughout the home.
A Caesarstone quartz worktop in warm tones with soft green hues brought depth to the kitchen, while a large glass pendant with brass details became a focal point. Its clear form allows uninterrupted views through to the garden, strengthening the biophilic connection.
Layers of Texture & Colour
The Arte wallpaper we selected was a triumph of restraint. While the client initially wanted bold pattern, we recognised that subtle texture would create more balance. Its understated finish adds dimension and draws the eye through the space to the garden beyond.
To contrast the green palette, we introduced a rose-pink velvet sofa, bold artwork, and a vibrant rug that gave the client her floral fix. Warm timber details and wood-effect tiled flooring balanced practicality (ideal for dogs and family life) with natural warmth.
Surrey Bathroom Design
The bathroom carried the same design language, with brass details and green tones anchoring the palette. Emerald wall tiles contrasted against pale flooring, visually enlarging the space and leading the eye upward. A walnut vanity added rich texture, reinforcing the layered, tactile feel of the home.
A Living Room That Sings & Cocoon
In the living room, burnt orange became the perfect partner to rich green walls, creating a scheme that felt both uplifting and cocooning. Bespoke sofas, layered window treatments, curated artwork, and custom cushions completed the room, striking the balance between cosy and eclectic that our clients craved.
✨ Cosy Kingston is an example of what we love most about Surrey interior design — taking a home with great bones but awkward flow and reimagining it with warmth, personality, and practicality. Through careful zoning, bespoke craftsmanship, and layered colour palettes, we created a Victorian house in Kingston Upon Thames that feels vibrant, cosy, and entirely unique to the people who live in it.
