Serene Surrey

Serene Surrey has been an absolute pleasure to bring to life. Our first design meeting with the clients took place back in April 2020, and after a rewarding journey we are delighted to share the finished, photographed project. This was a collaboration built on trust — clients who had a clear sense of what they wanted, but who embraced our expertise at every key decision point.

Early Involvement, Lasting Impact

We were involved from the very beginning, working alongside a structural engineer before planning approval. This project demonstrates why engaging a designer early is invaluable. From our Drill Down Chat, we uncovered the family’s wish list: a large kitchen with above-average storage, zones for relaxing and crafting, and space to enjoy their favourite antique dining table. Through detailed spatial planning we quickly realised that circulation space was too tight, and advised extending by an additional metre. That single adjustment unlocked the full potential of the home.

Balancing Light & Warmth

The new extension created a long, deep space with limited natural light, presenting a design challenge. To solve this, the material palette became critical. The clients’ dark walnut dining table was woven into the scheme by tying it to the stain of the island, balanced by a light, veined quartz worktop to bounce light around the space. Walnut became a subtle “red thread,” repeated in detailing across the interiors.

The rest of the joinery was finished in Little Greene’s Slaked Lime, a warm off-white that kept the space airy, with brass hardware and lighting to add cohesion and depth. Clear glass pendants and wall lights were introduced wherever possible, maximising light while layering texture and warmth.

Zoning with Intention

Every family member had their own vision for how the home should function, so zoning was key. At the front of the house, we designed a cosy lounge with a wood burner and a corner desk tailored for our client’s crafting, complete with bespoke alcoves and cupboards for sewing baskets and accessories.

The kitchen, at the heart of the home, was given its own layer of atmosphere with integrated joinery lighting. A beautiful green range cooker tied in with original fireplace tiles and was echoed in the island stool selection.

The dining zone sits beside bifold doors overlooking the landscaped garden, flowing into a bespoke lit bar with cocktail seating — a dream element for our clients. By keeping the lounge open plan to this extension, the bar acts as a subtle link between social and private zones, maintaining cohesion.

Layered Lighting & Practical Beauty

Our lighting scheme was all about flexibility and drama. Every zone was lit independently with multiple light sources, elevating both architectural and decorative features. The result is an interior that feels both practical and theatrical, shifting effortlessly between daytime functionality and evening ambience.

This bespoke kitchen, designed fully in-house, embodies timeless beauty and layered sophistication. While subcontractor challenges meant weeks of snagging and problem-solving, our team worked tirelessly on-site to ensure every element met the highest standards. For us, obstacles are simply opportunities to innovate — there is always a solution.

Beyond the Kitchen

The renovation extended to the children’s bedrooms, each zoned and styled to reflect their personalities, as well as the principal suite. There, we designed a walk-in wardrobe that maximised a tricky layout, creating much-needed storage while enhancing the flow and elegance of the space.

✨ Serene Surrey reflects everything we believe in at SP Interiors: planning as the foundation of success, collaboration as the driver of creativity, and craftsmanship as the measure of excellence. What began with a single dining table evolved into a layered, timeless family home — one that balances beauty with function, individuality with cohesion, and ambition with joy.
